This is the snake that started it all, my very first corn snake! Like most “first” corn snakes, he’s an amel. He hatched in July of 1995. I first saw him for sale at a herp club meeting the following February. I fell HARD for this guy! His calm demeanor and bright colors captivated me, and I arranged to take him home the following month. I don’t think any month in my life passed as slowly as that one did as I prepared for his arrival. He was sold as an ordinary amel, but had no white on his dorsal surface, making him a sunglow. His colors were nearly neon.
Well, Father Time has dulled this old guys colors, but his demeanor is as gentle and calm as ever. It’s true you never forget your first!
